Purpose of Announcement EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.
Kind of Work Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform responsible, professional level accounting work involving the accurate maintenance and financial reporting for assigned accounts, services, funds, and/or cost centers of the Parish.
Reviews and analyzes General Ledger and Trial Balance for all transactions and balances related to assets.
Maintain records for all asset purchases, asset transfers between departments, and asset transfers to surplus.
Maintain daily contact with departmental asset representatives to ensure accurate reporting of asset purchases and transfers.
Attendance required at any meetings or training pertaining to assets.
Responsible for issuing asset tag numbers and sending physical asset tags to departmental asset representatives after asset purchases have been approved.
Conduct asset inventory counts at the request of the Accounting Director.
Update the financial management system for any and all transfer of assets between departments including the transferring of assets to surplus.
Adhere to any requests made by the Accounting Director regarding assets and all direct expenditures for the 60,000 & 50,000 departments.
Processing journal entries for the indirect and direct expenses of internal service funds.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the classification of Accountant II; supplemented by at least one (1) year of experience in that capacity.
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college; supplemented by at least one (1) year of full-time, paid work experience performing professional accounting duties.
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with at least eighteen (18) semester hours of Accounting or Finance coursework; supplemented by at least two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience performing professional accounting duties.
Proof of education is required in the form of an original college transcript.
Professional experience must be obtained post-Bachelor's degree completion.
Kind of Examination (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof.
Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing.
Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment.

Tenure PaymentEmployees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
